THE FRAMES
There are many different kinds of wood available to furniture manufacturers
from hardwoods to soft. We use a kiln-dried hardwood called Alder
that comes from the Pacific Northwest. The Alder is graded for quality
and like a diamond this is done visually; the more knots and imperfections,
the lower the grade. The clearer the wood, the higher the grade.
We use the highest frame-grade Alder available.
• We do not use pine, particle-board or ply-wood.
• Frames are assembled, one at a time with wooden dowels
and glue and secured into place with galvanized steel fasteners.
• Frames are braced with multiple struts at 90 degrees and
corners are secured with 45 degree corner blocks. Both insure frame
rigidity.
• The frame edges are beveled so that there are no sharp
edges on the frame.
• Legs are secured to the base with screws for easy removal.
• Frames are available in various depths from 36” to
44” depending on style.
• Because the springs exert such a force on the base of the
frame, our bases, also known as rails, are made from a solid 6”
board.
